From The Front Line:

Alabama 3 present Men From W.O.M.B.L.E

‘Men From W.O.M.B.L.E’ is released on CD in December 2013 on Hostage Records.

Men From W.O.M.B.L.E. is the first of a three part series of LP’s which will be released throughout the coming year, cementing the bands reputation as the formidable cockroaches of rock n’ roll! That music keeps on coming!  Their W.O.M.B.L.E. series sees Alabama 3 collaborate with artists as varied as Buffy St. Marie, Tenor Fly, Daddy Freddy and more.

As it happens, the album is yet another huge departure in sound for the band. Synths and sampling take a front seat and drive the band forth from the underground into the glamourazzi over ground world of popular dance music.

Larry Love says ‘Alabama 3 are sick of being in Nashville. We’ve now made a record that will get us into St. Tropez night clubs, Milan Fashion Week and every hot shot club from New York to LA.  It’s funky, it’s perverted and it’s religious.

So what does all this wombling actually mean? You’d be forgiven if the first image that resonates in your mind is a furry children’s TV character from the 70’s.

I like to think that they were the first eco activist living off the land. In some kind of sense it represented an apocalyptic approach to children’s cartoons.” says Larry.

If you’ll remember the theme music to the Wombles went-

‘Underground, overground, wombling free, the wombles of Wimbledon common are we, making good use of the things that we find, things that the everyday folk leave behind.’

The ethos behind this album plays on that idea- ‘making good use of the things that we find’, furthering the band’s commitment to form collectives and work undefeated with the acknowledgement of their dying industry.

I think in this day and age, something that you have establish as a musician, is whether you are underground or overground. I think that Alabama 3 are proud to say, whether it’s because we’ve sold no fucking records, we have maintained and are developing an underground base which I’m very proud of.“ –Larry Love

It doesn’t stop there. The band have also given W.O.M.B.L.E an acronym, standing for WORLD OF MILITANT BEAT LIBERATING EXECUTIONERS- a commitment to keep terrorizing the music industry with their subversive approach.
