Manifesto:

Hostage Music is a profanatory collaboration between like minded visionaries, committed to breaching the new horizons now presented by the music industry, or more precisely by its demise, in familiar form. Predicated on irreverence to the patronage of the establishment and their dubious methods, and the courage to step forward and grasp the new opportunities arising in the deconstructed post behemothic label era : think EMI to HMV.

The main protagonists in the collaboration are, country acid house trailblazers Alabama 3, the No1 bestselling author Martina Cole and the owners of Brixton Jamm

Our objective has been to create a physical and economic environment where artists can produce music without proprietorial interference or commercial pressures, and to get that music to the widest possible audience, by whatever guerrilla tactics necessary.

The label is based at Brixton Jamm where over the last three years we have created the melting pot that has given birth to Hostage Music

Physically we have created new, and utilised existing, facilities to provide recording and mixing studios, a pre production studio and rehearsal space, along with associations with filmmakers a record shop, vinyl cutting facilities, graphic design, promoters and marketeers all within the walls of 261 Brixton Road.

Spiritually and creatively this has become a magnet for artists and musicians and producers of all genres and influences, to clash their sound, collaborate and where necessary plagiarise.

Join us for the ride to Release music , take hostages but no prisoners.

Definition of hostage A hostage is a person or entity which is held by a captor. The original definition meant that this was handed over by one of two belligerent parties to the other or seized as security for the carrying out of an agreement, or as a preventive measure against certain acts of war. However, in modern days, it means someone who is seized by a criminal abductor in order to compel another party such as a relative,employer, law enforcement, or government to act, or refrain from acting, in a particular way, often under threat of serious physical harm to the hostage(s) after expiration of an ultimatum. A person or party which seize(s) (a) hostage(s) is/are known as (a) hostage-taker(s); if the hostages are present(ed) voluntarily, then the receiver is known rather as a host;
